Try Stairway to Heaven, it`s great for beginners, teaches finger picking, strumming and a great blues scale solo, go to ultimate guitar tabs.com and get the tablature for that one and a ton of other songs.

Good Luck.

I've been playing guitar for about 14 years. One of the first types of songs I played were the blues. Nine times out of ten they are very repetitive and if not, they are easy to remember. I played alot of Jimi Hendrix-namely, Hey Joe, Chords to All Along the Watchtower, Purple Haze, etc. I also played Eric Clapton's Tears In Heaven less than a week after it came out. I thought it was a great song, got the tablature for it and practiced everday for a week until I got it down. I'm not saying it's the asiest song, but definitely one of the easiER ones that so many people love to hear. Check it out. Also try doing a few chord-driven versions of kids songs like, Twinkle Twinkle LIttle Star and Happy Birthday to get practices started. That's my opinion and I'm sticking it to you.

I am also learning guitar.

I use beginner books and dvd's that teach me all the strings and chords and after a bit of practice it actually starts to sound like something.

I wouldnt stick with one song....learn the basics and then begin to play actual songs.

omg I seriously was about to put smoke on the water until I read the details. Well the guitar in the song wake me up when september is dummy easy. 3rd fret 2nd string from bottom. play 3rd string from the bottom twice, then holding the string below it down play it once.. thats not the correct way but it sounds like it and its neat. But if you dont know the song this was a waste of time

you could try Howie Day's song "Collide", the chords are pretty repetitive, and easy to learn.. it's also a very romantic song.. give it a try! you might be able to do it.
