It has to do with gas inspecting and I dont know where to go for info.

My first step would be to go to your state's website. There should be a section on "starting a business". Some states require a license for certain professions. If your profession is listed by the state you must start there. Also, if you operate your business under any name other than your own, including "co" after your name, you must go to your county seat and file an "Assumed Name Act" document. You cannot conduct business without this notice, or you will be fined. Also your city or town will probably require some time of license also.
My suggestion would be to incorporate yourself, avoiding many of the liability issues, and making most of the paperwork easier.

Any business has to be licensed or you become a tax evader when you start making profit. Call you local city hall and go there and apply for a business license. They will then approve or deny you based on city/state laws.

Check with your state's Dept. of Agriculture (believe it or not). If there is not one, ask the Dept of Transportation. Inspections of this nature generally may be provided by government employees only.
