I completely agree with you.
So many people don't even realize how bad it really is.
They've got animals crammed into cages and just poisoned until they die.
It's so wrong I don't know where to begin.
However, there are some groups who are working against animal testing and animal cruelty.
PETA is a really good organization.
And there's little things we can do to help stop animal testing... don't buy products that are tested on animals, don't buy animal fur because it was taken from a poor defenseless animal. How would you like it if animals ran around skinning you for coats and locking you up in crammed cages poisoning you until you die?
People disgust me, I hope someday our society will have a better understanding of how we should treat other creatures.
Sorry I rambled so much :]

You are right of course, it is cruel. On the other hand there are millions of people alive today who wouldn't be without animal testing. Diabetics for example, animal tested allowed the discovery of insulin. The first woman to be sucessfully treated with insulin would have died a very young woman and went on to become a grandmother. How many other surgical techniques which save peoples lives needed animal testing to development. In a perfect world it wouldn't happen, and certainly it shouldn't happen when researching cosmetics, shampoo and that sort of thing.
Some things simple can't be tested on humans as they develop too slowly.
It's a complete area, and it's not just animal testing, have you seen how they battery hens?
It's great that there are people out there working to make the world a fair and happy place for all animals, human and otherwise, but in practice I think it will be a long time before we have the luxury of being able to do that.

I agree. There has to be a better way to test products. I think if the animals are treated humanely and the testing is for something such as new medications, cancer treatments and cures for other diseases, it is ok. I used to work in a research lab and we used rats for testing. They were treated better than animals in most shelters and were not allowed to suffer. There are strict regulations for animal testing (at least where I worked) and a vet checked every animal every day to make sure they were in not in any pain and were treated well. Our animals were not used for any experiments if they were not well. I am an avid animal lover (including rats) and can't tolerate any form of animal abuse, but in situations like the lab I worked in where it benefits millions and only a few animals are sacrificed, it's different than spraying hairspray in a rabbits' eyes to see if it hurts. THAT's abuse.

I do not believe animals should be used for things like make-up, hair care and dyes that kind of things. For medial use yes there should be animal testing. I am live because of animal testing, if you know anyone being treated for cancer, aids, diabetes. If anyone you know as had a pacemaker, transplant of any kind, If you have children or if you your self as had shots to protect you from sickness. If you or anyone you love take meds for anything all these have been tested Frost on animals. I had open heart sugary and a pigs value put in my heart and I'm glad I'm a life. I do not feel bad about.

It may seem cruel to you, but if scientists couldn't do their tests on animals they would have to use humans. I think that would be a whole lot worse than using animals. I mean would you volunteer yourself to be given aids so that they could find a cure for millions of people. I think not! Actually you should be thankful scientists do this or else we wouldn't have some of the vaccines we have today. Sorry to disagree, but I value human life over animals.

It is unnecessarily cruel when it is testing cosmetics, however as many people have said, it is necessary when it comes to medical research. If you had cancer and the treatment that was helping to cure you had been tested on animals, then I'm sure you would have a different view.

I read a book based in China and the dishes were horrible, turtles were boiled alive, I have no problem with killing an animal humanely then cooking it and I don't believe animals should be shot unless you are going to use them for something.

You would think that with modern science and technology there wouldn't be any need for animal testing at least for products such as makeup and shampoo and anyway if it is something that is being designed for humans why shouldn't humans be the ones to try them out? animals are not going to use these products why should they have to loose their eyesight having stuff such as mascara and shampoo put into their eyes etc.
At least with human test subjects they would be told what possible side affects there might be and they have the choice if they want to go ahead with it or not.

i used to work for a pre-clinical lab where the test subjects are animals ranging from monkeys, dogs, mice and etc.. from what i've learned, testing a new drug is very critical because there are effects that could be harmful to humans. some drugs are not harmful to adults but harmful to babies that's why they carry tests on pregnant animals for teratogonicity. or some drugs can cause cancer. before humans get tested on new drugs, the animals are ones subjected first.
maybe we should set our sights on poachers who sell furs, ivory or animal bones.

When you're trying to cure cancer, it's necessary. When it's a new shade of eye shadow, it's cruelty. We all need to boycott those manufacturers and support those that don't use animals to test their products.
