What is it that allows some spiders to move along surfaces where most other creatures would fall because of gravity? Do they produce sticky substances through their legs? Is there some form of suction device? Or do they have an anti-gravitational ability? Close-up pics or links to sites with some scientific explanations would help solve my inquisitive mind.

The spiders and geckos (lizards) use the little hairs - Scopulae (millions and billions of them) on their legs to act like an adhesive (without producing any liquid form of adhesive). Due to lots of hair and lighter body weight, it is possible for them to survey the walls and ceilings without falling. Check the site: http://www.creationontheweb.com/content/view/4688/ for info on spiders and the PDF: adhesion-interface.org/A.C.A/aca05_oral/06_Hyewon_Kim.pdf for lizards.

Pretty interesting.

Suction caps are used mostly by reptiles like lizards and monitors. Spiders and other insects can hold on to the walls by means of minute hairs. If you are a movie buff then you can refer to the Spiderman movie Part 1 where the actor discovers small hairs in his fingers.

Spiders produce silk, a strong protein that can be used to trap insects in webs or to climb or to do other functions. It is extruded from spinnerets usually found on the end of the abdomen of the spider. Spider silk is a really strong material, very ductile and tough.
Moreover, many spiders have dense hairtufts called scopulae under the claws of their feet, and these scopulae allow the spiders to walk on smooth vertical surfaces.
This, depends on the type of spider.
