This is a very good futuristic question, which most scientists are working on. But the greatest drawback is that, the laser objects (transmitter and receiver) should be in the same line of sight, so very long distant transmissions are possible only thru optical fibers which are very costly.

Laser beams are in themselves a form of power. They are a heat and light source and therefore a form of energy. It is possible to transmit laser energy over vast distances, but would be a hugely inefficient form of power. One of the biggest inefficiencies in power production and distribution is the wasted heat energy that is caused in the process. If cost of transmission was NOT an issue, then yes you COULD use laser to transmit power. There are a million much more efficient ways though!

Sure, it's just pathetically inefficient. The best efficiency for a laser diode is around 30%, while the best efficiency of a detector is around 50%. Therefore, you'd only get about 15% of the input power.

Transmit what power? Light amplified stimulation of emission radiation.
Lasers can focus their radiation off to the side of fiber optic cable and by synchronizing multiple discharges simultaneously, they increase their output and they do not have to be "in line of sight".

well your question is not actually clear. By power do you mean electrical power. If so then it is possible if you have a photo electric cell to convert the light to power. But even in that case it is the photo electric cell that produces the power. If you meant communications then yes it is possible.
