well, people wrapped up in polygamy tend to get hurt more often. They seem to be taken advantage of, and generally treated like cows.

For some monogamy is better than polygamy or polyamory (different things by the way).

Polygamy was useful hundreds of years ago because of the high mortality rate of women and children. 2 out of 10 women would die from child birth and only 50% of children would reach adulthood. Polygamy was a way to insure the continuation of the the family specifically, but the human race in general.

Polyamory is different because it is simply having multiple loves. From Wikipedia (cut and paste for the definition is quicker):

"Polyamory (from poly=multiple + amor=love) is the desire, practice, or acceptance of having more than one loving, intimate relationship at a time with the full knowledge and consent of everyone involved. Polyamorous perspectives differ from monogamous perspectives, in that they respect a partner's wish to have second or further meaningful relationships and to accommodate these alongside their existing relationships.

The term polyamory is sometimes abbreviated to poly, especially as a form of self-description, and is sometimes described as consensual and/or responsible non-monogamy. Polyamory is usually taken as a description of a lifestyle or relational choice and philosophy, rather than of individuals' actual relationship status at a given moment. There is a certain fluidity in its definition, to accommodate the different shades of meaning which might be covered. Polyamorous relationships are themselves varied, reflecting the choices and philosophies of the individuals concerned.

Polyamory is distinct from polygamy, being closer to a personal outlook than a predefined bonding system. It is grounded in such concepts as choice, trust, equality of freewill, and the more novel idea of compersion, rather than in cultural or religious tradition."

There is not just one way of living that is right for all 6.6 billion people on this planet (although some would want there to be). Everyone is an individual and has different beliefs, dreams, desires, etc. And the way someone loves is as different as their fingerprints. Nobody loves exactly the same way. Hence, so many relationship troubles because people look to receive love the way they give it, and when the don't, they get resentful of their partner rather than acknowledging that they are a different person and thus shows love and affection differently.

Monogamy works best for some. Some prefer plural marriage (polygamy), and yet others practice polyamory. It's just different ways of living, none being more "right" than the other.

i have had to many partners is life to think monogamy is better then polygamy. the only thing i do is i have one relationship at a time. this one has lasted 21 years and even though i am still hitched i know that if the chance was available I would be so gone in a heartbeat.
i have learned a long time ago (the hard way) just to take advantage of the situation and move on if the hardships get to many and to close together.. save your own but is my philosophy

for a while, when I was younger, I was a polygamist wife. I was the youngest sister-wife. i think, if a man can support one,two wives, fine. It is a jealousy thing for the women, and it can ONLY work if all get along well. The show is a really close-to- home look at how polygamist way of life is really like. I couldn't imagine my hubby with another sister-wife. Yes, it is illegal, but, dearie, it really still does happen in Utah, and surrounding areas. Don't kid yourself, polygamy is alive n well in utah!!!!

I believe that monogamy is better than polygamy. I have ONE wife and that is plenty for me. Oakridge Boys "Trying to love two women is like a falling chain..." I can not imagine what it was like for King David who had 300 wives. It must have been quite a stir at meal time. I believe God had in mind for one woman to be married to one man.
