I slipped on a patch of ice in a municipal parking lot and broke my leg. There were witnesses (who drove me to the e/r). I called the town to report the accident, and they stated that since this was an act of "mother nature" they were not responsible. I lost 1 month from work, and have paid out a few hundred dollars in doctors bills, etc. I don't want to "sue the town" for a large settlement; I only want to get back the money I lost. Any suggestions other than hiring an attorney to do it for me? I don't want to seem like a sleazy gold-digger. Thanks!

You should speak to at least several attorneys.
Let them tell you what they expect to get for you. Ask what the high and low range of accident settlements are for your area. Stay away from those who say they can get you a large amount well beyond your medical costs and lost wages. It seems like it you should be able to take the bills and a statement on your lost wages and interest you have to pay for falling behind and give it to the city attorney and get reimbursed. Aren't they required to sand or de-ice? That makes too much sense, I guess.
An attorney will generally take one third unless you can make other arrangements. What a racket!

Hiring an attorney is the only option and you will have to sue the town they arent going to voluntarily give you the money.

Well, you should consult an attorney first off. Most will give a consultation without payment in order to decide whether you have a winnable case. Good luck.
