I think it will be pretty hard if they want to have a family someday. Because issues like how they are going to raise their children and what faith they are going to teach them come up.
If the 2 people are very flexible and very compromising, then sure, I guess it can work.
But it's not easy.

Only if one partner doesn't try to convert the other. Most religious people I know are nuts and couldn't handle an inter-faith marriage and would probably divorce if one spouse lost faith or converted.

Just like any other marriages. Some work very well, while others do not. All depends on the mutual compatibility of the partners.
