I have 10 years of sales and managerial experience. Took 3 years off to explore the world with my sick wife. On returning I can't even get a job at Walmart or Home Depot as a cashier. I am just looking for a minimum wage job and can't seem to even get a single interview. Have sent out over 200 resumes. Any ideas, any jobs that even an individual drug addict could get? I've tried everything from even dumbing down my resume. 4 months and nothing.

Temp agencies are very helpful. They have a lot of temp to perm jobs. Also, you may want to add a cover letter that explains your last three years. When I was reviewing resumes three years unexplained usaully meant they where in jail.

With all due respect, how do you present yourself?
Do you have visible tats? Piercings?
Are you clean-shaven?
Long hair?
Do you dress for the interview?
(Where a jacket and tie regardless of what the job is.)
Do you lean forward during the interview or slouch?
Do you talk too much? Too Little?
What in your background or work history would cause concern? (Be honest)
Is your wife better, or did she pass away?
If she is still sick, the employer has to be concerned you might take another year off after they get you trained.

200 resumes tells me you aren't looking for a job, you are looking for work.

Pick a place, a job, and then want it with all of your will. Vision it in your mind. See yourself in that position. See your future employer congratulating you on getting the position, then a year later getting a promotion.

My experience indicates to me, that when someone really doesn't want the job, they exude that negativity, which is easily picked up by the interviewer.

Good Luck

Find a career counselor. Or a therapist.

Somehow you're sending the wrong messages to employers and they're rejecting you. You need to find a way to change those messages.

Do you have any other qualifications? Do you need extra schooling? Are you sending out resumes for the sake of sending them, or are you tailoring them to each job? Are you in a low-growth area, in which case is moving a possibility?

You might benefit from motivational coaching because it sounds like you are losing self-confidence of this. Find a phone book now!

If you are looking for a low end job, the guy hiring will not look at you if you are more qualified than him. Don't mention job titles at all. And age WAY plays a factor even though illegal.

Try this book: "What Color is Your Parachute?" It talks about how to get jobs besides answering ads. Also, you should check with your local government to see if there's some kind of agency that helps people find employment. Usually they have classes that are very helpful, and you can get feedback on how you're presenting yourself, and also help rewriting your resume.

Good luck!
