I cannot comment on the 40's music, although Iknow alot of talent came from that decade. The 50's brought the infancy of rock to the table. Along with Motown, and The flavor of Soul. The 60's......
What an explosion. Everything from the beginning of the sixties to the end was being absorbed and grooved by everyone. ALL the music was enjoyed by everyone. At least where I came from(NYC). The direction for popular music had their course set in the 70's. The 80's brought about another birth it seems. I think popular music struggled a bit. Then the 90's brought fresh new sounds with another explosion of talent, bold and unafraid.
Was earlier music better? It's hard to say. Music is just a sign of the times.

Definitely. The majority of the new music is so much the same, and it is getting way too offensive.
The older music has a great variety of styles and many FUN songs, esp. from the 50's (fun songs).
AND the love songs were based on love, NOT sex all the time.
My fave era was the 70's, but I do have a library that includes music from Classical to hard rock to country to jazz & big band, in addition to all the rock classics & great Christian music through the years.

Let me just this, though, ALEXA RAE JOEL's Ep is a great variety of styles that she has written. Billy Joel, her dad, should be VERY PROUD!

Oh yeah, everything from the 40's-70's is better than today's music. And I'm 15 I didn't even experience it first hand and its much better to me.

I love Dixie Land Jazz, Frank Sinatra, Glenn Miller, all that jazz is sweet. Music just is, I like it all. Techno is rad, some rap is neato, pop music of this decade is pretty lame so far. But it isn't so bad that it causes chest pains or hurls.

most definitely. They needed talent, not music videos showing how good they look. The lyrics seem to have more substance, and feeling as well.
