I'm currently employed by an agency to work in a company as a temp-to-perm. This means I am on the agency's payroll for around 3 months, after which the company has the option to direct-hire me.
The company already showed intent that they do want me in their company. After direct hiring, is my pay supposed to be higher? (I assume it has to be because the agency gets a percentage somewhere) And can I negotiate with the company?
Thanks.

my buddy works in temp staffing positions and tells me you'll probably get about the same...maybe a lil more...
first when a company pays to get you...the staffing company (reason why your a temp) gets a cut...i dont' know the percentage but...it's a cut...but as a result, you don't get benefits such as health insurance, vacation, sick pay etc...
sooo...the company will probably pay you about the same or a little more depending on how well you do. instead of paying you the hourly wage they do now...they will supply you with extra benefits that you otherwise couldn't have afforded on your own to make up for the cost (as listed above)....all that money is what they used to pay the company that staffed you as a temp.
you can always negotiate...and if you do...negotiate for whatever will make you happy. once you set the number....you're stuck their for awhile...gluck and congrats on the job.

Isn't being a temp fun. I've done it for the last year. Once, I was hired on full time after 3 months and my only raise was $.50 an hour, plus benifets. Which was pretty sad because I was doing graphic design. But afte 6 months I got a much better raise. Good Luck!!!

I'm in the same position. I'm pretty sure they want to hire me because they're happy with my work. I plan to negotiate for a higher salary. If we can't come to an agreement, I'll just do another temp assignment. The agency always keeps me busy.

The company pays temp employees more than permanant employees because they don't have to pay for medical benefits. Once you get hired premiums for medical/dental, etc will be taken out of your checks. If you have a spouse that has benefits at their job you would be better off staying with the temp positions.

Usually the company will hire you for a lower pay rate, and then give you a raise after 6 months. For the best information, check with your prospective employer.

You'll probably hire in at a lower wage, but the benefits should more than out weigh the difference. You can always negotiate your wage. Check with the human resource folks to find out when your benefits kick in. Buy a short term health policy to get you by til the healt benefits kick in!

For sure. A sure permanent job is way better, AND it's full time? Nice. Take it while you can.
