Make a dual boot and then you have XP and Ubuntu. You can learn Ubuntu and have Internet Access with your XP. If you have Ubuntu going maybe with a direct connect top left click; Applications > Add/Remove. It open a Window that load avaliable Software you can download. Top Right is a choice; Ubuntu Applications, and others. I can not say where it is, but, there is a Program Download for helping configure Network Cards, it may help. Just browse "All Avaliable Applications", I remember it does show a picture of a Network Card on left. I using my Windows2000 on my Laptop, so, not looking at Ubuntu on the Desk Top. Also, you can go to the Ubuntu Forms and ask there and maybe someone can help you.

I used to have Ubuntu, but went to openSUSE after a while. Ubuntu was a great platform. Most, if not all, Linux distro's do not support most of the wireless adapters. your wired connection will work fine, and, unfortunately, will have to suffice for the time being.

take a look at http://www.ubuntuforums.org/ and browse through their help and stuff and see what you can dig up. It has been quite a while since i've used it, so take a look.

good luck!

You have a couple choices. If you have XP but really wan to use UBUNTU, then pop for a new wireless adapter. How much is it worth to you to get Ubuntu installed?

The other option is to become wired as in use a NIC. Aside fro this, I am not much help..

Sorry and good luck.

Information about the make and model of the adapter would be useful.
