Although I was a few miles away I saw the smoke from the fires and saw them fall on the TV as I watched out the window. I knew at the moment I saw them that the world I had known for almost 40 years at the time had changed forever. Just as impacting and surreal for the next few weeks was seeing the warships off the coast and the fly overs of the military. I lost a friend that day whom I still miss a great deal. You can search Michael Boyle FDNY.

As far as celebrities. Sarah the Duchess of York was due there but was delayed, and Olympic swimmer Ian Thorpe was going there to sight see but went back to the hotel for his camera.
