I just had computer problems with my laptop and my whole HDD was reformatted. Now, I just finished installing the WinXP OS, but turns out I don't have the drivers for the devices.

I'm now downloading drivers, but they're in .rar, I know how to extract but where will I put it? Or how exactly do I install them?
Thanks!

run the decompressed files. They are usualy installer files, and will automaticly be placed in the correct system files, and your computer will automaticly configure the device with the device program (driver).

If not (and they are the raw driver, usualy not the case), then when you plug in a device (lets say a digital camera), and that window pops up (you know the one,.. says somthing like, help windows find this device, or somthing),.. in tehre, toward the end of setting it up, it will ask if you want the computer to auto look for the driver, or if you want to manualy set the driver, and if this is the case, then set the focass onto the folder with the driver in it, and finnish the hardware installation...

hope this helps

Ok Ready....... Windows XP has somthing called Plug-and-Play Which Should Install the Drivers For You. If that dont work then make shure windows XP supports that drive. Next if all thouse fail go on the manuifactors web site and the should have a dowload verision for you if the dont check Windows XP site or call them and ask for a CD-ROM to be mailed to you.

Control Panel--Performance and Maintenance--System--Hardware
--Device Manager.

Select the device you want to install the driver for then click update driver and point it to the path of the extracted driver.

get winrar, its a program that unzips .rar files. I suggest you unzip all the drivers into program files folder in C, it keeps it organized.

You simple go to the manufactureres site that made ur laptop, download the file, unzip them to new folder (s) you create in program files then just install the setup.exe files created for each driver.

some equipment does no longer have drivers on their web site, the acceptable answer is to purchase an agp or pci video card with conventional sort like nvidea and ati a minimum of 64mb minimum. you should purchase it affordable on-line. you could open your equipment and make positive you comprehend the appropriate interface frequently the better port, it will be agp for older equipment, the more recent equipment makes use of pci tutor.

Try to get them in "zip" if possible.

If you must deal with rar, you need a program like

Make sure you do the motherboard inf first.
