No, you don't need a bachelor's (although a company is free to ask for one if they want to). Graphic design is not specific to crafting. But, if you show what you've done and how your degree shows your interest, it can give you an advantage.

Graphics design in my mind is linked with Internet graphics (but it may be different at your university). You can also design book covers, company letterheads, logos, and other kinds of graphics.

This will usually be a freelance position, or as part of a design firm, but larger businesses may do their graphics in house (the National Library of Wales has about five dedicated graphics designers).

In many jobs, such as sales, management trainee or working at a bank, you can have almost any degree going in. In the old days, computer programmers had degrees in subjects like philosophy, but now things are starting to get more compartmentalized.

If you enjoy graphic design, go for it. And make sure to save all your work (especially work you do as part of a good team - portfolios are important) and do it well, and keep your contacts (they'll help you find work).
