People are ignorant about Iran because western media repeats the US governments propaganda.
America remembers the 1979 hostages, but conveniently forgets that Iran had a real democracy prior to America interfering and subjecting the Iranian people to 20 years of tyranny under a dictator, which coincidentally ended in 1979.
America believes the propaganda that quotes the Iranian president as calling for the destruction of Israel, when in reality he was quoting a speech by the Ayatollah Khomeini some 20 years before calling for the occupation to be wiped from the pages of time. Saying "the Iranian president quoted a former Ayatollah calling for the occupation of Palestine to be wiped from the pages of time" is not nearly as effective as saying he "called for another nation to be wiped from the map."
You are right, the Persian people have much to be proud of and some of us recognize that they have a right to be suspicious of the US, a nation that subjected them to two decades of tyranny.

Uh, yes, most Iranians are Arab, Islamic Arabs.
I can't tell if Iranians are civilized, polite people; I can't see them for the smoke of the burning American flags.
Iran is supporting terrorist in Iraq that are killing other Muslims. Taliban are Iranian students. Iran is developing nuclear weapons for the sole purpose of attacking Israel. And the list goes on.......
Iranians are ignorant, 63% cannot calculate the density of iron at 23 degree centigrade. The Greeks where the leaders in math and philosophy (no, why of course not, Iranians aren't ignorant!) and the only thing farmed in Iran is dates and they suc*; little worms don't you know.
If I had my way, the US would bomb Iran back to the stone age before it causes any more trouble.

Similarly to the U.S., the problem is definitely not the people, but the leadership. However, the transfer of resentment from the government to the people is not a new phenomenom. It happens all the time in the U.S.
I can understand your frustration. Be proud of who you are and where you come from. All the Persians I've met have been really great people. It's my interactions with these people that has been able to shatter any negative images about the state that our government tries to portray.
I'd say continue to speak up and educate people about the what Iranians are really like.

I don't hate Iranians but you have to admit, Iran does not have a good track record.
The main thing that Iran has done that made people dislike Iran (especially Americans), was the taking of the hostages in 1979.
If Iran wants to be respected like it was in ancient times, you need to get together and get rid of your hard line leadership.
The current type of Government in Iran just can't be trusted.
Then maybe relations with America and any other country that broke ties with Iran can be re-established.

i watched a ted koppel report on iran that says otherwise. i admit not ALL iranians are crazed terrorists, but when you have actual video footage of actual iranians chanting death to america it kinda makes you wonder what the hell is goin on over there!
he also interviewed a hamas leader that didnt exactly sound too happy with america. you should watch it if you dont know what im talking about.
what i did find cool though was in the segement they showed some younger iranians in their late teens with pro-american stuff saying that america was cool. so it gives some hope that they arent all bloodlusting for dead americans.
personally i dont think a government based on hardlined religous ideals is a good thing.
the video was very interesting and i recommend that everyone should watch it. http://dsc.discovery.com/convergence/koppel/iran/people/people.html

well, I see where you're coming from... I do...
but, to be frank, your president isn't doing you any favors... he makes you guys look kind of crazy... I'm assuming you're familiar with some of the things he's said...
(granted, I'm from America, so I'm not going to say we don't have our own problems to some degree with that, but I don't think our president is exactly condoning genocide either)...
and granted, your president doesn't have the overall power in your country...
and I've heard your president is losing influence, as is the American one, which is probably good for both countries overall, to be frank....
but, as I'm sure you know, we got hit on 9-11... so many of us are a little jumpy... and also, Iran had some connections, according to our investigations, so that's not winning you any points either...
but, I think most Iranians, are like most people from any country, good people... but it's the "bad apples" that scare us...

Sorry Bush has a agenda and it is not the American people`s will. The main problem is that us Americans are weak and we let fear control us and will let the government do whatever after they pump us full of fear that all Iranians are out to get us.

My best friend growing up was Iranian, his family was very well educated and kind. I don't think people should be judged by their leaders. Especially true in the USA.

I don't think Iran is a big deal, maybe our government wants us to think they are. The Iranian citizens don't necessarily all hate America. I'm sure they don't.
