I am happy you have asked this important question.
All subjects leading to professional career have market value. It means the job opportunities it provides.
Unfortunately, the earth scientists themselves do not value their importance in nation building endeavours.
The contributions of earth scientists in evaluation, exploitation and management of all natural resources has not been recognised in post independence period in India.
Can you name any product or any thing in life that does not have contribution of earth scientist. Even cosmetics, toiletries, agricultural produce, fertilisers, landuse, forestry, reclamation etc. require contributions from earth scientists.
When I say management of natural resources, I mean right from the planning and programming stages to exploitation stage.
It is high time we induct earth scientists at the apex level in the planning commission placed at par with the decision makers and involve them in the decision making process.
The importance of earth scientist is beyond seeking advice or comments on a given situation.
It is time a team of earth scientists are inducted in various ministries to be part of futuristic policy planning and implementation process.
With this paradigm shift, we would be able to cut down on time and cost overruns to a very large extent and the designed plans and objectives would reach the common man fast and would also accelerate down stream development.
Without doing this earth science as a career cannot be accelarated.

what the corrupt US government or the corrupt Indian Government?
we they it is fever sad what has become of governments..
but more importantly..
why do they subjugate women in India?, why do they,(women) stand and take it?
why are therr arranged marriages?? (basically sex slavery)
these are real important questions that the government SHOULD be working on . not an arms race or war with neighboring countries, or stealing jobs for US workers.. just get a book and teach yourself.. then go make some positive change in India.... please!
