a.) We live in a culture of instant gratification; people are interested in knowledge (occasionally), but not in finding out themselves. So they ask other people.

b.) We live in a culture that does not give much acclaim to he or she who is the smartest, but rather he or she who is the prettiest. Many of us have little capacity for seeking knowledge because it has never been a high enough priority for us to invest any time and effort into (also see a.)

c.) All that is known far exceeds all that one individual can know. No matter how much one may pursue knowledge, one will be, relative to all the knowledge in the universe, extremely ignorant.

d.) People are bored. And stupid.
