Quite a lot. Advertising is targeted at our need for belonging and to be loved (or at least noticed). Advertisers have their marketing down to a fine science based on people's less desirable qualities. If you can get into someone's mind and manipulate their feelings, you are taking psychology and using it for evil purposes.

I would say it's all about psychology. Do you really watch ads that you hate-- that grate on your nerves every time they come on? Then one that you enjoy seeing, like the 'Gecko'? Which one would most people be more inclined to pay attention too? The one that makes them leave for the kitchen to avoid hearing it or the one they enjoy?
