Hi, i purchased a Whirlpool side by side refrigerator mid 2000 and to this day it is still running fine. However, we move around all the time and at one stage the fridge was left in storage for two years without ever being used as we went overseas, to my surprise it still worked perfectly two years later when i plugged it in. Since then we have moved another 3 times around NSW and the fridge still works great. I am now looking to purchase a second, smaller, fridge and i want it to be as durable as the Whirlpool, what should i look for as far as specs and things go?

stick with Whirlpool. they have the best record as far as repairs.

Kitchen Aid is also very good repair wise.

We had a refrigerator for about 25 years. We had to get a new one in the end of 2005. What we found is that to save energy all refrigerators have thicker walls now, so there is less space inside than there used to be viz a viz exterior dimensions. Another problem for me was the strong odor of plastics and chemicals in almost all brands. I got migraines every time we looked at refrigerators.

We bought an Amana. It did not smell toxic. It
does freeze anything put in the meat/cheese drawer in the bottom of the refrigerator part. That makes even less usable space. The water filter and ice making features are nice.
The ice maker is easy to clean or remove jams
