It can vary on the trade but it is often a draft pick, prospect or cash payment that will depend on what happens in the future. So - for example, if team X trades a player who will be a free agent at the end of the year to team Y, the trade might include a future considerations where if team Y manages to sign him to a deal for the next season, they have to give team X say a 1st round draft pick but if they don't sign him, they only have to give a 3rd round draft pick.

A "future consideration" usually means....nothing exactly. Meaning it could be anything from a draft choice, a player, and those may depend on how well the player that got traded does. It may depend on if the player that got traded plays so many games, or scores so many goals.

Future considerations is a player or draft choice to be named later, depending upon how the traded player performs after the trade is completed.

It the team that traded the player really didn't want that player on their team anymore. Due to money or attitude and will take anything down the road to get rid of him now.

Its like an IOU, sometime down the road the receiving team has to pay up with a draft pick, player, cash bag of pucks or something...

the team that get the player owes the other team a player to be named later.

blahblahblah is right in his answer, except it's usually not as high as a first or third round pick.

it's usually a later draft pick with a condition on it, and/or cash.
