I understand that getting involved in other people's karma is a very serious matter, so if other people have problems and we help them, are we getting involved in their karma?

Karma is..."what goes around comes around".
In answer to your question...if you help people with their problems, you will be rewarded for that with good Kharma.

do good things=get good things
do bad things=get bad things

I totally believe karma is real.

When you do something good to someone it always comes back. When you do something bad it will come right back to you.

It is a super-duper hit multistarer SUBHASH GHAI film

Karma (Hindi) = Work or Actions (English)

Knowing the same word in English helps, i guess.

The philosophy behind is, whatever we do has consequences, good, bad or both. So before doing anything, pause and think it through.

Before we started to practice or if we do not practice well, we cannot fully understand the cause of the karma; then, of course, we will be affected by the karma of the other person if we get involved. It is like trying to save someone from drowning when we cannot swim ourselves. It is dangerous for both of us.

However, if we see other people in distress, we should be obliged to lend a helping hand without pondering whether we are getting involved or not. There will not be any problems as long as we are clear within our minds that it is not "I" who is helping others, but that we are just the tools of god Almighty, without ego and without thought of any reward..

It's much like the golden rule do unto others as you would have them do unto you because what you do will come back to you, maybe?

Karma is a term used in the religion Hinduism. Hindus believe in reincarnation. Reincarnation is when our souls still live after we die and are reborn as something else on earth. Karma is what Hindus believe affect what they will be reborn as. They believe that if you do good in life, meaning you are kind, giving person that you will be reborn as something that is valued in life. But if you are a "bad person" that you will be reborn in to something that you wouldn't find great. This cycle or reincarnation, dying and getting reborn in another form, is continued only with our souls and cannot stop until you reach muksha(mooksha) which is enlightenment. It's kind of complicated but if you study Hinduism it gets much easier to understand. Today, karma is used loosely in communication and the real definition is not what people use it as. If you help someone with their problems you are doing good and it will help your karma. (if Hindu is what you believe.)

Karma is worship. Doing routine job is not karma. Doing something without self interest for benefit of everything on Earth is KARMA. It is very difficult to most of us. Devotion, Tyag (Selflessness), Humbleness and so on are the qualities required to become a Karma yogi. May I say our India's Hon'ble President of India APJ Abdul Kalam is a Karma yogi.

Act of thinking, or doing or making is karma. Ones own thoughts or deeds will make his life enjoyable or miserable. If you do good to others, you recieve good things and vice versa.

learn thru observations..

just look at ur life and find our what u did and what was the result of it.
i dont know how this karma thing works, but it does work quiet good, mostly good things happen when u do gd and bad when u do bad.. but life is no mathematics and there are no perfections in life..

worst things can happen to you in return of the best thing u did in life.. so dont ponder about this things,, u will do just what u wanted to do...
