im a 16 yr old female and my dad is buying me a car. our top choices are the toyota yaris hatchback and sedan. which should i get and why? also, if you feel that neither car is suitable, what would you choose? plz consider im 16 and on a budget of 25,000 CDN and i want good gas mileage.

Since they're both the same car, just one is a bit bigger than the other, there won't be much difference. You should go test drive them both, and how will you be using it? Do you participate in sports , where you would need room to haul gear? As far as the answer to gas mileage, you'd have to check the stickers at the dealers, or visit Toyota's website.

i hear good things except that they're not the greatest highway vehicles because they have small engines, so they rev high on the highway so they make more noise. personally i'd get the honda fit rather than the yaris. people say its pretty fast for its size and still as fuel friendly as the yaris. its good your just looking for slightly used, its probably the best deal you can get on a car. because you get a car that's only 1-3 years old, so its almost as good as a new one, but at the same time, you buy it for much less than a new one. edit: oh yea, one more complaint...the thing that i really don't like about the yaris is where they put the speedometer...they put it in the center of the dash instead of the driverside...why?!?! so if you want to look at your speed you look to your right instead of straight ahead of you. but atleast its not as bad as the minicooper's speedometer...they put that where your radio controls would be... wow smart, how is buying a used foriegn car going to harm the american automakers... if you actually do your research, many parts from american cars are made in other counties, even actual cars. and make foriegn cars are made within the states... and maybe if american automakers made better cars people would actually willingly buy them. they are starting to turn around but its hard to shake off a bad rep.

I just bought an 07 yaris this weekend and I have to say that I absolutely love it!!! I got the sedan for several reasons.
1. It comes with a lot more options
2. It's cheaper on insurance
3. It's a little bigger. If you were to wreck in the hatchback you would be crushed because it's so small
I got the sedan with the biggest package, my car is completely loaded with everything you could want in it. I talked them down to $15,000, which is invoice on that particular car. Good price, great car!
