OK - here goes my suggestion - I'm a social studies teacher so -

Guests in seating order:

This dinner would have taken place in early 1775 - maybe in March - shortly before the first clash with the British Recoats which took place in April 1775 at Lexington and Concord - the first battle of the Rev War - also called "the shot heard 'round the world". A location would probably have been at the plantation home of Thomas Jefferson - Monticello - in Albermarle County, Virginia

George Mason - close friend and neighbor of George Washington who often visited and discussed politics, he and GW drew up the Fairfax Resolves which were the first writings on constitutional issues
George Washington - who thru his political connections brought together many of the men responsible for writing the most important documents of early american history
James Madison - who at the time was a 25 yr old just beginning his political career, and met Mason while drafting the first "Declaration of Rights"
Thomas Jefferson - who was a close friend of Madison and was chosen to write a declaration of the colonies independence, and embodied some of Mason's ideas in his famous D of I
Benjamin Franklin - who proposed the Albany Plan of Union, an innovative plan for uniting the colonies, even tho it was rejected, it set in motion the ideas of unification of the colonies
Samuel Adams - who established the first committee of correspondence in 1773 that urged resistance to the British
Patrick Henry and Richard Henry Lee - who were key colonical leaders and delegates to the First Continental Congress
John Hancock - who as president of the 2nd Continental Congress, lead the coloines to voted to organize an army and navy, issue money and made Geo Washington the commander of a newly organizing Continental Army
Thomas Paine - who wroke the brilliant pamphlet titled "Common Sense" which influenced many of the colonists to move toward independence

The connection between all these men is their foresight and intuition - all deep thinkers and writers - whose ideas were the foundations of our constitution - leaders of the revolution which brought independence to these United States we know today.

The menu for a dinner of that time would have probably included:

As an appetizer - a soup of roasted and pureed pumpkin and squash

Entree - roasted chicken

Vegetable - pickled green beans and boiled turnips

Dessert - Dutch apple dumpling

The beverages served during a meal of this time would have been white wine, apple cider and hot tea

Also on the table would have been fresh and dried fruits such as apples, cranberries, and plums.

There is a great site you can go to for more info about history - www.socialstudiesforkids.com

Hope this helped you with your project!
