x^2-10y+21

there wont be any factors for the expression with two variables x and y.
but if its x^2-10x+21 then:
x^2-10x+21
=x^2-7x-3x+21
=x(x-7)-3(x-7)
=(x-7)(x-3)

What two numbers add up to -10 and multiply to equal 21? -3 and -7.
