I was just searching around, and after going over my information very well, I have noticed that many people talk down upon Rap music, but when I typed in rock and roll or anything of that subject, it was postive things, majority people people answered positive.
With Rap, it was "thug" this, violence that, no beat. Majority just talk down upon it. Nobody tried to reason and say that there are good songs out there by rappers and to tell a God honest truth, it is the white surburb kids whom are listening to those "thugs."
I am a die hard Rap fan, I love it, and have no problem with the music. Some think differently but why so negative. You would not like it if I said that rock and roll is telling kids to go kill themshelves, and commit to Satan, because that is the message I get, but me being a OPEN MINDED person I do not subject to that message.
And a fact for you, in majority clubs filled with teens, rap and R&b dominates the music for the entire night.

I just want to say that in music, anything is possible, including varied opinions on the different genres. For one thing, rap may not appeal to anyone of all ages- it may come across as promoting violence and drugs but there are also rap songs with inspirational lyrics that I particularly like.

Rock and roll somehow caters to a wider range of people because of the invention time- the earlier rock and roll bands like Rolling Stones plus the later ones like Green Day and MCR equals wider appeal.

Apparently, the negativity is due to the number of people who prefer this to that and their character to make them speak aloud about their preferences. It might be rap fans are more open minded.

I love pop rock and hip hop, and I've been called a superficial airhead with no taste in music before, just because I like Avril Lavigne and Aly and AJ- but I stick to what I know best.

I too feel that I am very open minded when it comes to music.I was raised on the backbone of crazy loud R&R in the late 60's and on. And I feel that R&B gets its foundation from Motown music. And has been influenced by pure American Jazz, and home grown blues. R&B has been nurtured by years of great music. Thats why it's so emotionaly moving. On the other hand, unless you are willing to keep a very open mind and really listen to the words of the pioneers of rap,one will never be able to grasp the true meaning of rap. Or understand its roots. My introduction to rap was with the lyrics of 2Pak. And although the words and subject matter was hard hitting and shocking. I was moved by the intense deep emotions, probably because (although I am white),I was raised in a Brklyn ghetto,I saw what he meant in his lyrics. Rap has its place..Its an expression of feelings. Is that not what music is all about? But I will not put into the same class the turntablest, or the synthesized sound mixologist as I would the musician who truely learns the art of music, and spends half a life time perfecting his craft.

Not really sure what the question in there is...

But I sort of agree. A lot of people do look down on rap for various reasons, and I agree that there is good rap out there. But not all rap is good.

But then again, music plays to different ears. What one person likes the next person wont like at all.

I listen to stuff from all genres, and I feel what youre sayin. Alot of people say the same thing about country music, some of which I happen to like as well. Every rapper, like every country singer (or band) is different, and generalizing genres isnt really a smart or realistic way to look at things.
