Is it the conservative consensus that US Intelligence is too incompetent to prevent another 9/11?
Seriously, if they wanted to attack America (if they could), they are so uncontained that they would have been able to by now.

2nd Answerer, your comments are completely unsubstantiated. Bringing the war to America, who told you that BS? A couple thousand is over-exaggerated. It is claimed that Hezbollah has entered the USA thanks to the Bush Administration's support for illegal immigration, but that doesn't mean we can't easily thwart anything they have planned.

Recall, these are not the same terrorists from 9/11. Even the Al-Qaeda we are fighting are from completely different branches than the ones on 9/11.
There is no evidence that they are interested in the USA homeland. It is all just speculation caused by paranoia.
What is true, however, is that they are interested in the civil war which is brewing. There is no reason to monitor their civil war, plain and simple. Maliki has had his chances. He failed us, so now we need to face facts and pull out.

NONAME, you didn't answer the question. Also, do you believe hyphens make it so you cannot be subjected to being reported?

chillen4now, I DID NOT use profanity. Since when is the acronym "BS" profanity???

"BS" is something generic. Everyone says it. Even news networks and online editorials use that. "BS" is nothing bad. You know it, I know it. It's just when it is not in the acronym form that it is not appropiate.

Don't remember their leaders talking about bringing the war to America? Have you also forgotten the fact that there are over a couple thousand terrorist cells of different factions currently in the US. I know.... a logical person would say, " that a couple or even several thousand" would not be able to really do anything. But, it is a true and just saying, that never underestimate your enemies potentials and let your guns down.

PLEASE >> don't try and misinterpret this to pertain it to all Muslim....that is foolish and silly(my wife is a Christian/Muslim, and she hates what is going on with the Islamic faith today being exploited by fanatics and propagandist. It is also a peaceful faith for a lot).

US Intelligence is not too incompetent to stop another 9/11, there are just too many legal restrictions, like the Bill of Rights that are in place that will make sure that we will never be completely safe from such attacks in the future. This is part of the price each of us pays for freedom, the lack of complete security.

The reason we are not leaving Iraq is quite simple: oil. If we leave, that country will beyond a shadow of a doubt descend into all-out chaos. This would not only stop all oil exports from Iraq, but also disrupt oil exports from all over that area of the world. This disruption would cause a significant increase in the world price of crude oil which will translate to a significant increase in the price you and I pay at the pump for a gallon of gas. This increase would stagnate our economy and likely send the United States and others around the world into a recession. Our economy depends on petroleum and until that changes we need to have a reasonably stable Middle East to keep supply up and prices down.

Wooo the keyboard warriors.....if you all(do you see ALL no matter who or what side) know so much more then others - then get out there and do something about it. I am tired of hearing questions, answers, and questioners responses, as if you are a bunch of little kids rambling and running your mouths unnecessarily against each other.

Soon the US will be another Middle East - people killing their own people built on differences. This is how it all becomes blown out of proportion, can't anyone debate without the cut downs anymore. DAM!@

I don't think (speaking as a conservative) that I believe they would be able to attack us then anymore than now (speaking of shear capacity). But they have far less individuals making the attempt at doing so with a war right in their own backyard.

Ask yourself: If Iranian troops were on the streets of America, and you were brave enough to fight them, would you organize and attack the threat down the street, or find some way to travel around the world to plant a bomb?

While we're there, they've got bigger fish to fry, so to speak.

That's a Rumsfeld Doctrine, BTW. And, I think it's worked beautifully so far.

US intel is not incompetent by any stretch. It never has been. If anything, it's be inadequate.

Do I think the terrorists will follow us back from Iraq?

No.

However, a percieved "retreat" will give the terrorists a moral victory as the withdawl from Somalia did. Osama Bin Laden even went so far as to reference that in one of his audio addresses to his supporters. He referred to the US as a "paper tiger" and that when we take casualties, we run and hide.

That's the part that is most disconcerting. We hear the left and Democrats talking about our deaths and that is their purpose for pulling out.

The Democrats are validating the terrorists view of the US military and the US people.

The probability that we could be attacked again is fairly high whether we are in Iraq or not. If we leave before we accomplish our goals it could be seen as a sign of weakness and encourage terrorist to be more aggressive in executing their plans.

That is the theory at least. The question is do you really want to put it to a test?
