It's happened to me quite a few times, then again I did raise chickens for over a decade. When the chicken ovulates(which is almost everyday of the year) two yolks are captured in one shell...just makes for a better breakfast...a chick will not develop in that egg, although it would be interesting to see a conjoined twin chicken.

Yeah Dear..its really Normal...It happens....
U knw the process hw ..Identical twins ate formed???its almost the same way in Chicken too. This happens when two yolks are dropped from the ovary at the same time. Because they are so close as they go through the oviduct, they are treated as one yolk and only one shell is made. Each of that Yolk would develop into a Chicken. That egg which u broke had identical twins...But not any more..U BROKE IT....

Why would you be shocked ?

Humans have twins all the time.

A double yolk egg is just a twin, of course being in the same egg, they wouldn't develop properly.

Egg producers check for double yolks by shining a light thru the eggs, evidently your slipped thru the process.

Yes it happened to me, when we're taught industrial arts the eggs we eat are the result of a hen eating a laying mash, if its an egg that is not a result of that it contains a chick, I think it depends on process inside the body of the chicken
