I am not sure if you have already purchased the CCNA preparation book written by Cisco but there is a lot to memorize. This becomes more difficult if you don’t have any computer background since you won’t know already know the concepts. I’d say with none or very little computer networking background, you are looking at least three months, probably a lot longer like six months.

CCNP and CCIE are different stories though. They are very difficult to be self-taught at home since you will actually need some equipment. I know that some study materials come with virtual labs but they don’t replace the real thing.

There are private places that offer the preparation courses for thousands of dollars. But I will let you in a little secret. Look at your local JCs and universities and they may have classes for fraction of the cost.

Just to give you an example, when I took the CCNA preparation courses, I had to take four 3-semester credit hour classes. But the cost of the classes was ridiculously low since they were offered at a JC.
