I am writing an essay that religious faith is a paradigm, much like kuhn describes certain models in science as paradigms. I need some strong counterarguments to argue against. Can anyone give me any ideas for why religious faith is not a paradigm, or anything that you think may contribute to my paper. Thank you so much.

That'll be really difficult, for any thought, any law finds its roots in religious principles -at least many of them.

I think you are correct.

However, the are many forms of religious faith. Thus, at best "religious faith" is a class of paradigm, rather than a single paradigm.

But the strongest counterargument I can come up with is this -- religious faith, IN PRINCIPLE, can not be falsified. Still, that fails to the observable fact that people DO give up their faiths in the face of contrary evidence. So actually, it's the same thing. A paradigm, religious or otherwise, can be stretched arbitrarily far without breaking; however, it starts looking increasingly threadbare when you do so, and it eventually gets replaced.

Defining something as a paradigm requires a definition of that something. It also requires knowing what a paradigm truly is. What are the prerequisites for a paradigm to exist? And simply, would I know a paradigm if it hit you in the *** in the middle of the road. If you are laughing now, you are reading this for answers. Religious faith varies so much in intensity, basic tenents, even within one faith such as Christianity that it turns out to very multi-faceted. Since faith is usually not monolithic, therefore it is really hard to figure that it fits totally into a paradigm model. Then too, there are other faiths that also fit into that category and are as multi-faceted as their followers. Hope this serves as some enlightenment.

God is not a paradigm. He is the source of your intelligence, awareness, being and reality. You'll get it if you hang in there.

The idea that is your being ... may exist for ninety years if you're lucky, the idea of God has lived a bit longer ... duh.

Most people just understand what they don't know is a paradigm so they follow it. Agreed.

I'd like to read your paper, E-mail it to me. Yahoo has my address.

Read and smoke a lot of weed, a lot of weed! Everything then becomes a paradigm.
