First the difference between a shrub and a tree...
A tree, by general standards, is usually tall and shrubs (aka bushes) usually don't get very big or aren't allowed to grow very tall. Some trees are used as shrubs because they can be pruned easily and grow in neat hedges. Cherry and ash are trees while burning bush is a shrub.
Herbs are plants used for medicine or to flavor food. Thyme and Garlic are herbs.
Vines are long climbing plants that need support for their limbs to grow. They grow up trees, buildings, other vines, whatever they can to go upwards...Ivy is a vine.

A tree is the tall brown thing with a bunch of green leaves at the top, a shrub is a short brown thing with green leaves all over it, herbs are short green things that you can eat to add pizazz to your food and vines are long green strands with leaves growing all along them.
Whew...glad I could straighten you out.
