you might be able to go with a bird it not realy insect and very easy to take cdare of to feed the bird the bottom line that bird want alot of attention from you and becareful not to open the door while holding onto the bird they can easlly fly away. make sure you get the basic bird do not buy the fancy bird becuase those type of talking bird are expensive the kind from South America, Africa and some from soutn of Florida I believe.

I was reading another response, and I would just like to inform you that hermit crabs are a very bad idea. They die rather quickly, and Its creepy to pick up a shell and have a dead crab fall out of it. They smell pretty bad, too. Also, once, one latched on to my thumb and wouldn't let go. My thumb was purple for days. they certainly aren't cuddly. ferrets can be great pets if you can train them properly. they do bite, but i trained mine and he never bit. they also have smelly poop, but you can buy them "ferret litter boxes" you could also go with the furless cat.

Depending on your state, the coolest furry animal aside from a ferret is a sugar glider, which is a squirrel/ferret/bat type creature. Incredibly cute.

Get yourself a hand-fed Cockatiel bird. They are so much fun and very affectionate as long as you get one that is hand-fed so they're used to being handled by people.

I've had my Cockatiel, Buddy, (along with several other animals) for a couple years and he's tons of fun.

some dogs actually don't have a lot of fur...i dunno if a chihuahua would work? they're cute, but if your mom's allergic, that might not be a good idea....but how bout a fish? feed em once or twice a day and they're happy. haha

Try a chinchillah. They are different, super friendly, about the size of a large guinea pig, and they are very fluffy.
