Although it is true gays have been excluded for the most part, countries like Canada, Netherlands, Germany and even Israel have sections of their Shoa (Holocaust) Museums now dedicated to the second largest group of people selected for extermination: Homosexuals. It's a beginning but more people do need to learn that our brothers and sisters died in the camps just as horribly and as painfully as our Jewish brethren. If only Christians (Evangelicals in particular) could learn from this, perhaps maybe, just maybe, they would be begin to understand our plight and not aid and abet the hatred that continues today.
For the record, it is estimated as follows:
6 Million Jews
500,000 + Homosexuals
200,000 Christians, mostly Catholic
100,000 Roma (gypsies)
100,000 Handicapped or Mentally Challenged People

That's where the pink triangle comes from. A lot of people aren't often mentioned in connection with concentration camps, and you do have to wonder why.
I know that certain Christians were taken to the camps to be killed--Jehovah's Witnesses, for example--but, JD, I'm pretty sure that didn't include Catholics, since the Pope supported Hitler.

Yes, but the jewish were the large majority of them killed in concentration camps. I think there were hundred thousand or so gays, but millions of jews killed. But everyone studying the topic should know that people apart from the Jewish people were tortured and killed.

I live in Italy, one of the countries where the SS committed their crimes against humanity. I've been here 22 years.
Never have I seen mention in any news or tv documentary or "rememberance day" for holocaust victims anything about the black, gay, handicapped, gypsies and others you mention.
Very sad, but true.

The star is yours because the question is a good one. Yes, it's wrong...it's not totally forgotten...I think it's the CAW union in Canada still uses pink triangles and black triangles to represent these people.

The problem is with alot of 'history' is that without studying it in any depth, you will always get it from a particular stand point. We have to remember that for alot of us the education we have is state or goverment funded - so it is always going to be biased.

Good point. Yes, I never thought about it, but that's an excellent point. Yeah, gypsies too. Free spirits.

You forgot Christians...plenty of Christian slavs and others who opposed the Nazi party were killed as well. Do you think that's wrong, too?

Wrong? Nah. Anyone who survived, survived, and good for them. **** if they were gay, black, jewish, gypsy, or whatever. Why do you gotta put people in a box man? Its makes no difference, they are all just people.

Cool. Thanks for the info. I never knew that.
Oh, right, and yes I find it wrong that Jews got all the credit.
Also, I didn't mean "cool, that happened". I meant "cool, I never knew that and now I can share my knowledge of this with people who, like me, didn't know"
Thanks
Sure, you get a star from me.
