I am a tourist who, unexpectedly had a baby during my stay in New Jersey in July 2006. My partner (an American citizen) brought me to a friend in New Jersey and when I had premature labor, she was the one who brought me to the hospital. In the ER, the nurse asked for my contact details, my companion gave her address and contact numbers as well. To date, my partner has not settled our hospital bills. Recently, my companion told me she has received the billing addressed to me sent to her residence. I am so embarassed about her being involved in my partner's irresponsibility. Is she liable to pay for my bills because she gave the hospital her contact details? How can I get her out of this hassle?

Your partner isn't responsible for your bills unless he is proven to be the father! Your friend has no legal obligation to pay them either, so it falls right back in your lap, so to speak!

had a similar situation where my husbands eldest tried to pin a $3000.00 er bill to us by using our address fraudulently, what we had to do was open the bills and call the number on the head of bill and tell them that this is NOT my bill and to cease and desist from this point forward, and ALL bills and matters relating to these bills are to be sent to..............[give out either your address or your partners or wherever you now reside]
Trust me she is NOT liable for the bills but unless she gets very snotty with them SOON then it may well start to impact on her credit report [linked by addresses] I am interested to know did you have the baby and where abouts [country wise you are now] as IF you was on vacation then surely you had medical insurance, I know that in the UK they will not issue your ticket without proof of medical insurance when coming to the USA.
