I am just asking for people's opinions on whether or not an invasion is possible. I am asking people if they think North America's security is strong enough. If North America's security is not strong enough how would you strengthen it?

Ahhh, a good question, finally!

Having two large oceans that cover each coast, and the Gulf of Mexico beneath us, and topped off by a polar ice cap, it would be difficult to sneak up on us. That is certainly an advantage as far as terrain goes.

I seriously doubt that any infantry or mechanized forces could penetrate far into the US border, they would be observed well in advance of their arrival and annihilated by US bombers and fighter interceptors. The US would also have a reaction force to meet any threat and delay it until troop reinforcements arrived. The enemy would probably receive fire from local police, Federal Border Patrol, and possibly armed civilians.

An airborne assault would be unlikely, because airborne forces would only be able to sustain themselves for short periods of time until reinforcements and supplies arrived. If they parachuted in, they would essentially be behind "enemy lines" and cut off from help or supply. Given that the US could respond quickly to attack, they would be cut off and eventually anihilated.

There are no navies in the world, for the most part, that could mount any substantial amphibious assault. There are countries in the world with massive armies, but they would need a massive navy to move them and their supplies. Crossing the Atlantic or the Pacific would leave them sitting ducks for US carrier strike groups who would be alerted to their presence. The early warning technology is much better today than it was December 7, 1941. So sneaking up on us by sea would be foolhardy.

To invade through the ice packs of Northern Canada is an option, but Canadian forces would probably pick up on any incursion into their country and mount a counter-offensive. US troops would probably be there to back the Canadians. So I doubt any country would try that. The polar ice packs have no cover or concealment of movement.

The US had considered, during the Cold War, an invasion force coming in through the Bering Sea into Alaska. With that water being some of the most treacherous on earth, and the environment there hostile to a good amphibious landing, I doubt seriously that would be an option. The enemy would have to piecemeal their forces and try to get them landed on the mainland of Alaska. They would be picked off by early warning technology and the appropriate forces would respond. I believe both the US and Canada would respond to that threat.

I think the only possible invasion that could take place in North America would be terrorist infiltration. Since the US government has done nothing to seal it's porous borders, we are susceptable to foreign infiltration. I think that once they managed to cross the border, they would form terrorist cells and initiate guerilla type attacks on selected targets. It would make routing them out very difficult. Of all the scenarios, I think this would be the most logical one.

To strengthen our security, we need to do several things. First, we cannot take threats or this war against terrorism lightly. We have to be in it to win.

Secondly, we need to close the southern borders of the US and station National Guard troops there who have authority to arrest and the authority to fire their weapons. We also need a border fence, as the Israelis do, to slow down any border incursions.

We need to be vigilant. We need to observe what goes on in our communities and report to authorities anything suspicious, no matter how small a matter we think it is. Any intelligence gained is a terrorist stopped.

We are at war, and we have to think that way. When we become complacent, then we are at risk of disaster.

a little history here.

In WW II Germany turned on it's ally, Russia and invaded it. The Russians responding by enacting the scorched earth policy, destroying everything of use to the enemy. So the Germans had to supply their troops via trucks and airlift. Once those supply lines were stretched, and Russian winter set in, the Russians drove them back. The battle lines ebbed back and forth but eventually, the Russians were able to kill of capture many Germans, and drive for Berlin.

The Allied invasion of Europe was only possible because of England's being used as a staging area. A great deal of subterfuge and misdirection was also involved.

Imagine in todays age of satellite surveillance, stealthy aircraft and submarines, and advanced signals analysis trying to sneak a few million troops within striking distance of the US without us knowing about it. A ship full of munitions and troops at the bottom of the ocean is somewhat useless.

So my answer is no, it's impossible to invade the US.

Well.... North America is quite a broad area. Canada, the US, and Mexico are all considered North American land. Now, if you were just meaning the U.S., then that would probably be a resounding no. Even as drawn down as our military is now days, it is still strong enough to defeat any three combined armies of any other country easily enough.

Unfortunately, it's only a secret to us Americans... we are as watertight as a collander.

Our northern border is simply theoretic and the preferred point of entry for terrorists...

Our seaports receive millions of overseas containers every year that have not been checked and are the prefferred point of entry for smugglers of people from the other continents, and drugs, and such...

Our southern border is swiss cheese... with as many tunnels in as there are footpaths across. ( We actually have been invaded by another country before... by the armies of Pancho Villa in the name of Mexico. He too walked across.)

Our shorelines are exposed and just as vunerable as other countries to SEAL / Commando attacks.

The airline hijackings of 9/11 were carried out by less 100 people... patiently.

It doesn't take an army or navy to attack stratagic targets here... just a reason to... and why would they care about civilians here when we couldn't give a sunni-***** about anyone who isn't a member of our political party or on our favorite sports team.

These are all common knowledge... greater details are also well known but I want to be able to sleep at night as well...

Take the blinders off and keep them off...

...'nuff said.

that's achievable, the management in North Korea is amazingly erratic and we don't even know who's unquestionably in can charge. yet they're taking area of their nuclear toys, it variety of sounds like and there is mostly a gamble they might basically want to be sure what occurs in the event that they use it. i do no longer think of there is besides we would invade or attack, or extraordinarily nuke North Korea until eventually there became an attack by utilising them on South Korea, Japan, or yet another best chum, or of direction on the US. yet this would not be MAD (on an analogous time certain Destruction) like in the process the chilly warfare between the US and u.s. (Soviet Union). One or 2 nuclear bombs on North Korea might probably wipe them out. yet there is not any assure China does no longer get into the warfare on North Korea's area. i do no longer know approximately Russia. i think of if achievable they might stay independent, and technically they do no longer seem to be Communist now. yet North Korea has been doing issues now and back by way of fact the top of the Korean warfare in 1953. In 1968 they took one in each of our ships, the Pueblo and held the group prisoner for numerous months. At different circumstances there have been border incidents. And now they're attempting out missiles and nuclear bombs. i do no longer know if it skill we are closer to warfare or that is in hassle-free terms the 'same-previous same-previous' yet now with nukes in contact.

Our homeland security cannot protect us 100% when terrorists launch multiple attacks on us - many people agree with me!
The scale of an invasion is much greater than terrorists' plan, so it is harder to be done! Ships and Planes must be used to invade us; I don't think they make it to our soil - except they land on Canada or Mexico! So we must have a good neighbors in order to strengthen our security!

Tactical nuclear strikes on the hardened centres, followed by battlefield nuclear weapons. Use preferably very dirty weapons to eradicate the population. Wait a few months for the fall out to settle, then move in and join the cockroaches and politicians, as that'll be about all thats left alive.

The only way it would be feasable is if a military dictator took over Mexico and somehow convinced the people there to destroy the USA instead of take advantage of its economy. Canada is too much like us politically to ever WANT to do it, and our coastal borders are too broad and easily proteced by the Navy.

I think a bunch of people from another country would move here and harrass the government into giving them rights. Then when enough of them got here, they would start to influence laws and policies until they were finally the ones in power. Then... oh wait, we were just conquered.

Why do you think we have the imigration laws that we have? I know, most think it is out of ignorance and bigotry. Simple fact is that in this day and age, you are probably not going to see one of the main countries in the world economy fall to a foriegn country.
