No one cares about Bill's sex life. We can careless about his marital infidelity. But, when he lied about this under oath, we definitely took notice. Perjury is a crime for us common folk.

First of all, I'm not a Republican. In answer to your question...
because it proved that he committed perjury. The Paula Jones civil action alleged that Clinton had a pattern of behavior for hiring and promoting women who "serviced" him, and not hiring or demoting women who didn't play along. Gennifer Flowers, with no clerical skills, was hired instead of a middle-aged black woman with secretarial experience and could type.
Paula Jones alleged she was discriminated against because she wouldn't fall to her knees and...well, you know the rest. She had a right to subpoena testimony in order to establish her case.
President Clinton wasn't impeached because of sex; he was impeached because he clearly lied in order to derail Paula Jones' legal rights, obstructed justice, suborned perjury and committed perjury himself.

Wow this brings back memories...."My children shouldn't have to be witness to this!" then....."gimme the dirt, every single gross detail." And boy did the self-righteous Republicans dish it out. Their behaviour was more disgusting than Clinton himself.
I never wanted the details, anymore than I would want the details of little GW's sex life. Yuck!
