I am a messy person. I'm not dirty or gross, but I often leave clothes laying around or drop what im doing and leave it there. I just don't have the compulsion to pick it up when im done. is anyone like me and what do they do to make cleaning up a reflex?

BTW, in response to one answer...that was not constructive in any way! Everyone else wrote something helpful and you just make fun of the situation. Thank you, captain obvious I know it won't be easy....I was asking for tips.

I used to be that way--and sometimes I still am.

We just need to remember that picking up one thing when we drop it is so much easier than having a room full of stuff to sort out in a week.

It's best to have some sort of containers for everything to go in--plus a hamper in the room, a trash can in the room, and lots of hangers and drawer space.

I like those 18 gallon storage boxes, and the round storage totes--with them, the stuff can just disappear. It makes me feel good when the room is tidy.

Here's what works:

Decide on a set amount of time each day that you will clean. Say, 15 minutes. Do it each day for a month, and always stop at the end of the time. Then, after the month, live with the new, cleaner place for a month and get used to it. It will take a while. Repeat as needed.

You can also try a hypnotic suggestion, that might help a lot, and it's not that expensive.

Good lord, get some self discipline and do it. No one said its going to be fun or that you should feel some big surge of motivation before having to clean up after yourself

of course there are a lot of people who experiences the same problem. I think the best thing you can do is to have an internal motivation. or you can also give yourself rewards whenever you get to clean your place.
