It's an exclamation used as salutation by Jews at meeting or partying.
From Heb. means 'peace'

SHALOM is the Hebrew word with THREE meanings: Hello, Goodbye & Peace.

It is a word in Hebrew, used by Jews, as a traditional greeting or goodbye.
In the Islamic counries, a similar sounding wording 'salaam' is used which is a traditional greeting. There are certain other terms of greeting using this word salaam, but I am not sure of the spelling.
