I'm a junior in high school now and atteding both college and high school. I took the GED practice test to see if I could pass it easly. I exceeded with the test and people say that I should go on with the GED test to be finished with high school and just move on with college. I'm a little afraid that a University might not accept a GED. I know that people can attend college even without a high school diploma. I would rather go on with my career and recieve my Phd faster rather than worry about one more year in high school. So with getting my GED does it make me look less smart? Can I recieve scholarships and grants with a GED?

Many colleges will accept you with a GED but there is a stigma attached to it. GEDs are generally for people who get kicked out of school, can't finish, dropped out, or are raising kids. It is admirable that you are so excited to keep advancing in school and a career but I think you would be short changing yourself. Some high schools let you graduate with a real diploma in 3 years - that's what I did. Also, some will let you be a high school student but take full time college classes so you would be working towards both degrees at the same time. Check with a guidance counselor to see what options are available for you.

Four year colleges do not take a GED as a diploma. If you do that, you will have to complete two years of junior college (and may or may not have to get an A.A. degree) before you can move onto a four year school. Why not just keep up with high school and college for your final year? I did that (took college classes at community college as a requirement for a high school course and also during summer school) and I knocked off about 12 units for when I went to UC Davis. You would be a lot better off to keep going that way.

I have found that the better ones won't or on a trial(test per case as in home schooled or Private schooled), If you have a GED and a secondary(2 year degree ) that also depends upon the secondary credentials. as being acceptable. not all two year collages are uniformly accredited or in some cases self accredited(worthless)
Example: Texas A&M will accept Amarillo College (AC) credits but not all TSTI credits. AC will accept TSTI credits no problem. Americam Tech Institute credits aren't accepted at any of the above.
Best bet get the HS deploma first.

There is not better since of accomplishment than walking acrose that stage getting that deploma and the since of accomplishment that you have work your life thus far for. OHHH WHAT A HIGH

Your acceptance into a university is based on you SAT score and your High School GPA. A GED just indicates that you have fulfilled the requirements to graduate from high school. Therefore, a university will not care that you are providing them with a GED instead of a diploma if your grades and SAT score are excellent. Good luck!

Well, From my experience I know that most Community/2-year Colleges will accept a G.E.D. but they might make you take a couple of proficeincy exams. I dont know of any 4 year colleges that take G.E.D's.
