Under where or whom?

One of the lessons I've had to teach Megan is totally against what we Americans were raised with. I warn Megan's mom now of what she's about to hear...

While eating dinner, it was fun to ask Megan, "What are you doing under there?". Totally confused, because Megan is a very well-behaved and mannered young lady, she couldn't understand to what I was referring. Well it had become obvious to me, but I hadn't noticed it in a quite a while until I saw Megan doing it. She had her hand UNDER the table and in her lap when she ate. A no-no in France, I explained to Megan to be careful doing this in public, people would wonder what she was doing with her hand! In France, and other Latin countries, having your hands above the table during eating is normal. Don't ask me why, I'll be interested in Eric and Elisabeth's views, but you always have your mid-arm resting on the table and not in your lap.

So, if you're ever in France, you can throw some of your American manners out the window and do as the natives do. Have both arms on the table, eat with your left hand, and soak your sauce up with your bread. Who wouldn't want to be a kid here! Sorry Megan's mom!
