Because the Japanese have a way of thinking out of the box.
We all have different life styles and thus different thinking styles.
Why do you think there are so many weird and odd animes out there?

Also, many of the horror movies become hugely popular in Japan.
Producers want that for American audiences and remake it
BUt its never the same from the original.
Thats why American remakes don't work. They just don't fit the part like the Japanese actors did.

DId you know that Scorcese's "The Departed" was a remake of a Chinese movie?
Shows you that anyone can make a remake if they really want to.

Though, one of the best Japanese movies will never be brought over here to US. "Battle Royale" is that movie and I think its a wonderful movie masterpiece.
True 15 yr olds are killing each other, but thats the reality point that makes it good.

It sucks, dude. They're remaking my favorite horror movie of all-time, a Korean thriller called A Tale of Two Sisters (Janghwa, Hongryeon). I know it's going to suck-- Pulse, the remake of Kairo was terrible (not that the other's weren't, either)! I wish the idiots in Hollywood would start coming up with their own ideas instead of ruining perfectly good movies that people are too lazy to watch in subtitles.

As long as people lay their money down at the ticket-wicket Hollywood will stick with what brings home the bacon.
As one early movie maven put it- If you want to see art go to an art gallery.

Because the Japanese make better horror movies! Hollywood can't beat them, so they copy them!

Because they are different, unusual, strange and hollywood needed some original material to work with that people hadn't seen before.
