I saw a science show where they took a guy who could not sing AT ALL, completely horrible, and in 2 weeks taught him to sing reasonably well (at least in tune).
The singing teacher used a computer programme where you can actually watch your voice, and put it into the "good zone". It's sort of like biofeedback.
Find a singing teacher who uses a programme like this - the results were really good, much better than the person just getting regular singing lessons.

yes you can take lessons most anywhere now..try the local unniversity music program students teach on the side at least they do here ..some folks were never meant to sing proffessionally..be realistic .and don't let anyone take advantage of your desire to learn...
