That only shows up in your Word. If you print the document or if you send it to someone else, those characters don't show up. Word marks spaces and enter with those symbols. Your options are set to see the symbols. You have to change your settings, so they don't show anymore, but they are practically always there.

If you are using Microsoft Word 2002, go to Tools > Options.
Then on the View tab, there is a title Formatting marks.
Make sure none of the options are selected (ex. Tab characters, Spaces, Paragraph Marks).

They are called "non-printable characters."

The first character is a paragraph marker, and the second is a place holder indicating a space.

I prefer to leave them on, as it helps make writing reports and other documents "easier," and editing becomes even simpler.

In any case, if you look at the tool bars at the top of the page, you will see a paragraph marker character in a grey box. Click on it, and you'll disable the viewing of non-printables. If you don't see it, right click on the open space beside the tool bars. Pick "Customise" from the list (at the bottom), then in the customise window, click on the Commands tab.

Next, select the View option in the left frame, and *should* be in the right frame listed as "Show All." Drag the character onto your tool bar, click on "Close" then click on the "Show All" character. Your non-printable characters will vanish.

If you want to remove the "Show All" button from your tool bar, pull-up the Customise window again, click on "Commands," and drag the button from the tool bar to the Customise window, and "drop" it anywhere in the window, click "Close" and it will disappear.

You have to disable the Show/Hide paragraph feature. You usually find this in the View menu or in the toolbar. (Look for symbol ¶ ). If you still don't find it, try adding the command to you menu/toolbar. Just right click on an empty region in you toolbar and select Customize...Find the appropriate tab. You can select an icon from there and literally drag it to your menu or toolbar.

relies upon what version of MS word you're working. under the domicile tab, look under the paragraph section. there's slightly button that looks like the emblem which you're seeing. click no it. If that doesn't resolve your concern, click on the little drop down arrow under he paragraph section and flow from there.
