When did the story of Daedalus and Icarus take place; the period that is? If any one is familiar with the poem from “The Metamorphosis” by Ovid called “The story of Daedalus and Icarus,” it was written sometime after 43 B.C. another question, is how famous was this myth before the poem was written in/or after 43 B.C.? Thanks

Im assuming that you mean the myth of Icarus flying too close to the sun.
Then No one knows.
Mostly because these are myths.

If you ask when Odyssus's travels took place, we can't tell you that either because Homer wrote that story.

The Greeks themselves didn't even have a timeframe for these stories. You can't place a myth in time if its never happened.

(Greek: “Skillfully Wrought”), mythical Greek architect and sculptor, who was said to have built, among other things, the paradigmatic Labyrinth for King Minos of Crete. Daedalus fell out of favour with Minos and was imprisoned; he fashioned wings of wax and feathers for himself and for his son Icarus and escaped to Sicily. Icarus, however, flew too near theSun, and his wings melted; he fell into the sea and drowned. The island on which his body was washed ashore was later named Icaria.

The Greeks of the historic age attributed to Daedalus buildings and statues the origins of which were lost in the past. Later critics ascribed to him such innovations as representinghumans in statues with their feet apart and their eyes open. A phase of early Greek art, Daedalic sculpture, is named for him.

in Greek mythology, son of the inventor Daedalus who perished by flying too near the Sun with waxen wings. See Daedalus
