The the first answer above is incorrect. Andromeda is the name of a constellation, and is also the name of the nearest full-size galaxy to our own, but there is no star called Andromeda.

The brightest star as seen from Earth other than the Sun is Sirius, also known as Alpha Canis Majoris.

The fourth brightest star is Alpha Centauri, or Rigil Kent. It's also part of a system of 3 stars that are the closest stars to our own Sun. Alpha Centauri A is very similar to our own Sun, only a tad larger but of similar luminosity.

We don't know for certain what the most luminous star we have observed is yet, but a few contenders are Eta Carinae and The Pistol Star. Generally these stars are so far away that they are not very bright as viewed from Earth.

We cannot say anything about their brightness. What we see on earth is not the actual brightness of the star. Other than sun, SIRIUS is the brightest star in the night sky. Who knows this star might be brighter than our sun.... There are so many stars in the Milky Way galaxy that it becomes almost impossible to say which star is brighter than the sun.
After all, man has not yet succeeded in viewing the whole of the universe or rather, the galaxy itself. So there can be innumerable stars that are brighter than our sun.

Your question has endless answers.............

Our sun is considered a main sequence star, which means it about average, it just seems so bright because it is so close to us.

It appears so right because of apparent magnitude, or how bright it appears.

Absolute magnitudetells how bright it actually is. So a bright star far away will look dim and a dim star close will loke bright,

there are many brighter stars out there then ours, s ome so far out there light hasnt even reched our planet yet. and light travel at 186,285 miles a second.

we human think that sun is the brightest star because sun is in our solar system and nearest star to the earth ........like sun there are Billions of stars. The only difference is they are far away then our solar system. And one more info is that nearest star other then sun in the solar system is proxima centura which is approximately 4 light years away from the earth.

all stars which are visible to us in the night sky are much brighter than the sun. they are at a distance of nearly 1,00,00,00,00,000km away from our earth. yrt they appear to be twinkling and we can see them shine.
the nearest and brightest star is andromeda (check the spelling, i may be wrong).
