Yes. If he mixes his medication with anything that can cancel it out, such as alcohol. Check the prescription label for more details.

Being one with a seizure disorder myself, and on Dilantin, I can tell you that just because you're on medication does NOT say you are totally safe from seizures. My situations were when I got very seriously into my bicycle racing and long distance riding and running. I would have a seizure while riding my bicycle or running and seriously stressing myself, and I'd be brought back into town, in an ambulance, to the hospital ER. My doctor told me that I can bring on seizures through the extreme exercising I did, and he many times stressed his wish that I'd tone down my racing and running. Also, if you, or, in this case, your boyfriend, drinks alcohol in any form (beer, wine, wiskey, etc.), you increase your likelihood of having seizures because alcohol does the exact opposite of what your antiseizure meds do. That's why your boyfriend may have been advised NOT to drink alcohol, or should have been. I can certainly understand your concern, and his, if he has any, as I was too insensitive to even care about my own seizure maintenance care. Ya'll take care. God Bless you both.

Most definitely. There are many things that can interfere with the medication. Also stopping and starting medicine can cause a seizure.
