I live in Peru in South America. And I always sleep with the curtain open, so I always see the moon up high in the sky around midnight. Today however, my brother's friend saw an orange-like bigger full-moon to the west (I think) and to our perspective the moon or whatever it was not high in the sky, but it was almost behind a 15 stories building. At 11:31pm, 21 minutes ago! 2 minutes ago it just disappear fading lower towards the horizon! IT ISN'T THE SUN, BUT IT WAS ORANGE AND BIG! Also, we have been looking all over the sky the past 20 minutes.. the moon isn't there!! So we don't know what is happening!!! Please help us!!! Is there a scientific explanation? Is something similar happening in North America?

Yeah, I've seen an orange moon before too...its so peculiar isn't it?

The reason for the orange color is apparently because it is close to the horizon...as such, it travels through more of the atmosphere than it would if it were directly overhead and much of the colored light is scattered (shorter wavelengths are scattered more easily which is also why the sky is blue). As only the reddish colors remain, the moon appears orange.

Oh, and the moon looks pretty normal to me up here in the US.

Most people that work at hospitals hate working on nights of the full moon. They say work load doubles. Some say studies have been done that prove that, others say there is no evidence. I don't work at a hospital so I wouldn't know. I just take the word of my aunt. Personally I feel energized on nights of the full moon. In some older cultures a full moon was a more fertile time for women. I have also heard that mushrooms harvested during the full moon are safe to eat.

The moon phase is just under half right now. I did not see such a thing where I live in the northern US. What you have seen is very strange. It's a good reason to look to sky often to see what is going on up there!

Here is where I look up space weather. On February 16th there is a story about a giant star. I checked back to see if this could be the cause . It's a good place to find out what's happening in the sky.

First the moon is not full. It is at a half stage. Right now where I live it is almost due West about 45 degrees up. The dark is on top with the light on bottom. There is no full moon tonight!
