And they never return it? Other than not letting someone borrow, what do you do?

if someone does not return a book or something I let them borrow, I would nag them day after day until they return it or buy you a new one if they lost it. I mean I get into their lives, I call them once an hour , text them,IM them, and pretty much get on their nerves. It works well.

My mom is the only one I will lend my books to... she taught me to respect and care for them ,so I trust her to do the same for mine lol.... I quit lending to other people after I lent an expensive hardcover book to a so-called friend and it came back with the spine broken and pages falling out... they would not buy me a new one, so I will never lend them any of my belongings anymore.

i used to loan out books and movies all the time. after hundreds of dollars in losses now the number of people that i allow borrow them is down to three. so all i can suggest is be selective. or, if you prefer, when someone asks to borrow a book ask to borrow one of theirs at the same time. that way you have leverage later.

I used to lend books out quite a bit then one friend kept "forgetting to return them. I loaned her a hard covered copy of "little women" and I didn't get it back for years. Then we she was moving to a new apartment she "gave me" it back. Like it was a gift. So I now only loan paperbacks(not to her) and those that I don't care if I get back.

Yeah, my bro's friend didn't return a book for a LOONG time and when he did it was all rough on the edges, dog eared and HORRIBLE...

But, I feel hecka bad. I admit, I sorta slightly messed up my friends fave book
i haven't had it for long.. maybe 5 days?.. it's about 500 pgs and im almost finished with it.
the only thing different about it [from when i first got it] are these stupid faint cookie crumb marks on the bottom. i didn't hav ANY cookies tho, so i don't know HOW it got there.. does anyone know a way to remove it?.. its on the edge of the sheets of paper part.. =/

I love to lend my books and I know I risk not getting them back. If it's a good friend, I ask If she is finished with it yet as a reminder. Otherwise, I forget about it..

I don't lend my books out. I used to, but I've never gotten ONE back.

Straight up say: "I don't let anyone borrow anything... Sorry, it's just my policy."

I hate when people have books of mine and feel the need to take months and months to "read" them... Hoping I'll forget, of course.

I stopped loaning out books when I got one back and my "so called friend" had written comments all over the pages without my permission.

yes of course i would be annoyed.
if you do loan your books, make sure the loaners are
people who are rather responsible.

maybe another way is to borrow something back from them. and dont return it to them. show them wat it does to you when you dont return their books.
