It's really warm, tender & red, maybe infected. Anyone know of any ointments I can put on it? How can I soothe the pain?

I did clip it down as far as I could go!!!! Sheesh! It just hurts, there's still a bit left. If I pull that out I'll be in bigger trouble. It's not gross looking, come on guys, be real. Serious answer only please.

Hey girl. I get em' ALL the time... Dunno why either. I know what you mean. It looks all puffy and reddish and TENDER as H---LL!!!

I have ALWAYS gotten relief from a thick dab of pain relieving NEOSPORIN. It kills bacteria, soothes the sting and the ointment softens the skin in that area (specifically the hangnail) and it will heal pretty fast. Next thing you will know - you will be like "Hey. My finger stopped hurting - wonder when THAT happened....."

Of course, for the pain of the throbbing in your finger (if it feels like it has a heartbeat) fill a little cup of ice water and take it to the living room while ya watch TV... Dip your finger in - and take it out when it feels too cold. Then repeat. The ointment will not come off since it is petrolium based.

Good Luck.
Hope your finger gets better soon.

Ciao'

Neosporin or triple antibiotic will help. Soak it in some warm water, too... Keep it covered!

To prevent hangnails, push your cuticles back when you get out of the shower. Take your towel and push them down gently - you should not have any/many after doing this for a while.

Go to a foot doctor and have them clip the sides off. You should never get another hang nail then.

Also, stop wearing shoes that are too tight around your toes.

if you soak your hand in warm water with dishsoap, like dawn or joy, that will make it feel better.

i get them pretty bad sometimes, and whenever i do dishes, they seem to get less sore.
