Are you going to the Davie campus or North Miami? You DO NOT want to live right near North Miami! It's a little creepy.

Davie, Hollywood, Hallendale - these are all good. Aventura can be pricey. I don't know about Plantation. Hallendale is about 25 minutes' drive from North Miami, and about 40 minutes or so from Davie.

NSU is in Davie - west of Ft. Lauderdale. There are a s**tload of apartments and condos for rent or sale in the Ft. L.- Davie area, all in safe neighborhoods. Exc for a section of NW Ft. Lauderdale, it is all pretty safe. The only thing wrong with Davie is that it is a spread out suburb & you need a car to get anywhere. Nearby safe middle class suburbs include Plantation & Sunrise. Go to Sunsentinel.com for a listing & other info about the area.

NSU is in Davie and yes, it is a decent place to live.

The condo market is a buyer's market now- be sure you like it because it will be very hard to re-sell. My opinion is to rent first. There are some nice apt. complexes in the area. Get in touch with the Davie and Plantation chamber of commerce and ask them to send you a welcome package. Also, go online to sun-sentinel.com and Realtor.com and do your homework.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy South Florida as much as I do.
